One day as the Monsters were tunneling underground, they stumbled upon an immense vault containing several of the mysterious objects known as the Wubbox. Very little is known of their origin or purpose, save a few observations: after being incubated in the Nursery, sample analysis of the box's exterior indicates that it shares traits with every known Natural Monster species - in fact, it even has specialized compartments with an otherworldly shrinking technology. The box is also imbued with an elemental energy unfamiliar to those on the surface - a shocking discovery, to say the least.

Description

Wubbox is a Supernatural Monster available on all Natural Islands, Fire Haven, Ethereal Island, Wublin Island, and Gold Island. It was added on May 9th, 2013 during Version 1.1.6, although it has been added to each Island on separate dates. Wubbox is obtained in a way unlike other Monsters. It is purchased in the Market for 75,000,000 Coins (or 150,000 Shards on Ethereal Island), and then takes 2 days to incubate. When hatched, it is placed as its Box form, which is activated by boxing all required Monsters.

On the Natural Islands and Fire Haven, Wubbox has a high Coin production, comparable to Rare or Epic Quads and Ethereal Monsters. On Ethereal Island, it has the lowest Shard production. On Wublin Island, it produces currency similarly to the Wublins.

Instrument: Electronic dubstep kit

Wubbox's tune is a loud and vibrant electronic dubstep that makes a big difference to the song of the island it is in. (for Track 1)

When not playing its dubstep (not muted though), it will still make other sounds, so listen closely! Wubbox may make a brief hi-hat cymbal sound, a thump, or a synthetic sound. (for Track 2)

On Gold Island, the tune is shorter and becomes more harmonious with those of the other Monsters. On Ethereal Island, Wubbox plays only once in the whole song.

VSTs

Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plugin software that has libraries of sound effects and synthesized instruments. Within these libraries are SoundFonts, which are the individual effects and instruments themselves. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VSTs to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters.

Breeding

Wubbox cannot be bred. It can only be purchased in the Market for 75,000,000 Coins (150,000 Shards on Ethereal Island).

Activation

When first placed on an island, Wubbox takes the form of a box that makes no sound and earns no currency. It must be activated by "boxing" all of the required Monsters into it. Wubbox requires all Common Monsters of the breeding class of the island. This does not change on Islands that function differently, however. For example, Wubbox can not be teleported to Ethereal Island like Ethereals can, and on Wublin Island, Wubbox does not have a time limit or need zapped eggs.

When all required Monsters are zapped, you can then select the "Power up" option in the Monster's menu. After its activation animation plays, it functions like any other Monster.

Only one inactive Wubbox may be placed on any one island at a time.

Requirements

Island Required Monsters
Natural Islands All 15 Natural Monsters
Fire Haven All 7 Natural Monsters
and all 8 Fire Monsters except Candelavra
Ethereal Island All 15 Ethereal Monsters
Wublin Island All 19 activated Wublins
Gold Island All 30 Natural Monsters

Boxing Monsters

After a Wubbox is placed on an island, a new "Box It" menu option will appear for all Monsters on the island. This can be seen when first placing a Monster from the Nursery, or when selecting a Monster from your Island. This menu option will appear for Monsters that cannot be boxed, or are no longer needed. Trying to box a Monster that isn't needed will not box the Monster and result in a popup message stating "This Monster type is not required!".

After a Monster has been boxed, for all intents and purposes, it is gone and cannot be retrieved from Wubbox. It will no longer earn currency and won't count towards the happiness of other Monsters, even with the help of a Unity Tree. It will also be removed from Gold Island if it was placed there, and any costumes it had will be lost.

Using Diamonds

Instead of boxing Monsters, you can use Diamonds. Diamonds can be used while having no Monsters boxed, or while already having some. Each Monster boxed reduces the price. Each Monster equals the same amount of diamonds, despite some being harder to obtain. For example, the full price to box 15 Monsters on Plant Island is 450 Diamonds, and the price to box only 7 Monsters is 210 Diamonds. Due to Wubbox's high Diamond cost, it's recommended to use this method sparingly.

Island Total Cost Cost per Monster
Natural Islands 450 Diamonds 30 Diamonds each
Fire Haven 450 Diamonds 30 Diamonds each
Ethereal Island 12,000 Diamonds 800 Diamonds each
Wublin Island 22,800 Diamonds 1,200 Diamonds each
Gold Island 9,000 Diamonds 300 Diamonds each

Gold Island Activation

Unlike other Islands, Gold Island has some important differences to keep in mind. Although placing a Wubbox on Gold Island retains its level, name, and size, it still must be activated from box form. It does, however, remain activated on its original Island. It is important to keep activated Wubboxes on Gold Island, because if an activated Wubbox is removed, it returns to its box form and must be re-activated when placed again.

In order to box Monsters on Gold Island, they must be placed on the island - unlike the Nursery, there is no option to select it from the list of unplaced Monsters. This is not an issue for bed management since Gold Island has unlimited beds, but clearing the physical space for Monsters on very crowded and populated Gold Islands could be a concern.

Just as any Monster placed in Wubbox is removed from their island permanently (and on Gold Island) - Gold Island Monsters placed in Wubbox are also removed from Gold Island (and their home islands).

It is not suggested for casual players to attempt the Gold Island Wubbox, due to time needed to get this far, as well as the fact that it produces no currency.

Likes

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Wubbox:

See the Likes page to view a complete list of all Monsters' likes.

Note: on Wublin Island, the Wubbox does not have any likes. Placing these Decorations near the Wubbox will not affect the Currency it generates.

Monsters Who Like It

The following Monster(s) will increase their happiness by 25% when being placed near Wubbox or when Wubbox and a Unity Tree are on the Island. These may or may not also be Wubbox's likes as well:

Wublin Island

Main article: Wublins#Income

Wubbox, like the Wublins, can produce between Coins39,000 and Coins78,000 Coins, Treats7,200 and Treats14,400 Treats, and Shards144 and Shards288 Shards. However, due to Wubbox not being affected by Polarity, it likely generates more Coins, Treats, and Shards on average, similar to Monculus. Being the only Monster on Wublin Island to take up a large 4x4 grid space, Wubbox will produce Diamonds5 Diamonds. It generates a random type of currency every 6 to 12 hours.

Currency generation is calculated separately per Monster, so multiple Wubbox will receive more currency, and have a higher chance overall to obtain valuable Diamonds. For maximizing income across your Wublin Island, see Wublin Island Grid Planning.

More info can be found in the Feeding article. Wubbox cannot be fed on Wublin Island, and it is already at Level 15 size when activated.

Sales

Wubbox goes on sale multiple times per year, with sales typically being 50% off, and as high as 75% off (usually during Cyber Week), which can be well worth waiting for.

A Wubbox bought while on sale will have its Selling price reduced by the same percentage. For example, an empty Wubbox bought outside of sales for 75,000,000 Coins would sell for 56,250,000 Coins, 75% of its purchase price. That same Wubbox bought during a 50% off event for 37,500,000 Coins will instead Sell for 28,125,000 Coins, 75% of its purchase price.

Bios

Every Monster has a short description called a bio (short for biography), which can describe the Monster, share trivia, or bring a greater insight into the lore of the Monster World. These Bios are viewable through the Market or through the "Info" menu button when a Monster is placed. Due to Wubbox's unique status within the Monster World, it has several bios, which explain its appearances on multiple islands. Since Monster info can not be viewed on Gold Island, Wubbox does not have a unique Bio there.

Eureka! The Wubbox awakes!

As it turns out, this extraordinary Electric Elemental is vital to the life processes of the Colossal island spirits that the other singing denizens call home. The shrunken Monsters used to power up the creature report that the inside is as fun as any Playground they've ever seen, so they are happy to stay indefinitely.

The robotic chirps and whistles it uses to express itself can take some getting used to, but eventually become a beloved and inextricable part of the island's tune. Besides, it's all the rage in 'current' music.

Box form; Ethereal Island
In a startling turn of events that none in the Monster World could have predicted, more of the mysterious Wubbox have been discovered deep in the subterranean recesses of Ethereal Island. This discovery, which flies in the face of the Monster's previous designation as Supernatural, has sparked intense debate among Monster classifiers, with some proposing a new theoretical 'Superethereal' class be created.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, however, is that this Wubbox variant is powered up in the same way as its Natural island counterparts... by 'boxing' other Monster species inside!

Gather some intrepid Monster volunteers and see what happens when you 'box' them!

Active form; Ethereal Island
Eureka! The Wubbox awakes!

While this 'Superethereal' Monster retains the Elemental affiliation with Electricity, its very presence on Ethereal Island is baffling at best. This finding could have far-reaching implications for the Monster World, suggesting a closer relationship between Ethereal Island and the other islands than previously imagined. Was Ethereal Island ever part of the main dimension? Could it be that all of the Colossals once lived together in a state of unity and harmony?

As these and other mysteries continue to tantalize, the Wubbox enthusiastically sings and dances alongside its Ethereal friends, and even produces Shards too!

Box form; Wublin Island
What many have suspected for a while has finally been confirmed - the Wubbox is indeed the creator of the Wublins! This Monster admitted to being inspired to create life based on remembrances of an otherworldly visitor that seemed to come from the heavens above. Yearning to create a Supernatural family of its very own, it tapped into its instrinsic elemental Electricity to harness the power to Zap Monster eggs. Content with the diversity and number of Wublins it had created, the Wubbox has settled in to become a permanent resident of Wublin Island and has invited its brethren to share in the experience of being Boxed, just like Natural and Ethereal Monsters before them!

Only Wublins that have been awoken may be Boxed.

Active form; Wublin Island
Eureka! The Wubbox awakes!

Upon being powered up, the Wubbox inspected Wublin Island from up close for the first time, as it only ever done so before through secretive, arcane methods. Pleased with the Electricity-themed décor of the island but deciding it needed a little sprucing up, the Wubbox made it possible for Decorations to be placed on Wublin Island for the first time. It also lifted the limit on the number of unique Wublin statues on the island at a time, so multiples of the same Wublin can exist. When not cavorting with its Supernatural family, the Wubbox can be found wistfully carving the initials W.B. + G.V. in nooks and crannies out of sight... not sure what that's about.

Box form; Fire Haven
Depending on who you ask, Fire is either a Natural Element existing alongside its fellow five, or an outlier enjoying a special elevated status more akin to the Supernatural Element of Electricity. No matter where you fall on that debate, it still came as a surprise to discover more of the mysterious Wubbox in the remains of the living core. Curiously, the Power up requirements for these specimens is a mixture of Monsters from multiple classes (a first for the Wubbox) suggesting that whomever placed them in this location in the first place was hoping for a reunion of the two families someday...

Gather some intrepid Monster volunteers and see what happens when you 'box' them!

Active form; Fire Haven
Eureka! The Wubbox awakes!

With a Wubbox now powered up on a Fire Island, it begs the question: was this Monster stowed away in secret, as were the others around the time of the formation of the Natural Islands? Or was it instead the first to be placed by its creator back in the waning days of the Dawn of Fire era? Perhaps inadvertently squirrelled away alongside other valuables as the Fire Monsters fled the prehistoric Continent and sought refuge in the living core? We may never know for sure, but what's certain is that it's supremely satisfying to reunite the partnering Elements of Fire and Electricity in such stupendous fashion!

Lore

Beyond the singing and collecting, the world of My Singing Monsters features a deep history with lore. This lore is discovered through in-game Bio descriptions, through game trailers, and from official MSM social media, such as Q&A segments on My Singing Monsters Live. Although not every Monster plays a large role, Wubbox is notable in the history of the Monster World.

Wubbox was created by Galvana during the end of the Dawn of Fire, known as the Cataclysm. Vaults containing the Wubbox were placed through numerous islands, with the true number still yet to be determined. Galvana created it to act as batteries for the newly formed Natural Islands, after the separation of the Continent, perhaps to aide the Colossals in possessing the islands. Wubbox's presence on other Islands is mysterious, as why they are found there is not completely explained. Its presence on Ethereal Island might suggest that the Ethereal Island Colossal may not have always resided in the Pocket Dimension. Wubbox's discovery on Fire Haven has yielded the most theories. It may have been stowed away at the same time as the others on the Natural Islands or perhaps it was the first Wubbox to be placed. Wubbox's Bio also reveals that it may have been squirreled away during the Cataclysm, just like the Crystals of the Continent were.

May of 2013 was the first time Monsters entered the Wubbox. Although in-game, Monsters are forever lost when boxed, the lore reveals that the Monsters are very much alive (and happy). The interior of the Wubbox uses some sort of technology or magic to shrink Monsters and transport them to a virtual world known as The Playground. The Playground is one world accessible from any Wubbox (presumably only those in box form).

In 2016, Wubbox designed and created the Wublins and Wublin Island. The Wublins were created out of some sort of stone and brought to life via The Spark of Life. The rest of the Monster World discovered Wublin Island in March of 2016 through Blabbit's Scroll, which revealed a map of the island. Wubbox continued to create new Wublins until July 2017, until Wubbox joined the island's song itself in August. Before the Wubbox joined Wublin Island, the creator of the Wublins was a mystery. Later down the line, the Wubbox also decided to design Rare Wublins as evolutions of the original Wublins.

Possible Monster Names

  • "Bowhaus" comes from the Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known as the Bauhaus. It was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts. This may be a reference to Wubbox's skills in creating the sculptures of the Wublins.

Notes

  • Wubbox's name is a combination of the words "wub," (an onomatopoeia for some dubstep sounds, referencing the Monster's music) and box (due to the Monster's unique post-hatching behavior).
  • Wubbox is the creator of the Wublins.
  • Wubbox (alongside the Wublins) is considered the "Hex" elemental Monster due to all five Natural Elements (Plant, Cold, Air, Water, and Earth) and the Fire element all configuring into the element of Electricity, the Supernatural Element.[1] Alongside other confirmed statements, this topic is very debatable.
    • This means Wubbox may or may not be added to Amber Island, possibly due to 31 of the indigenous Monsters having limited availability. Otherwise, Kayna would be the only Monster it would require. This would be a pretty weak argument, though, regarding that the Rare and Epic Wubbox variations also require limited-time Monsters.
  • Both "Wubbox" and "Wubboxes" are acceptable plural forms for the Wubbox species.[2]
  • In Big Blue Bubble's 2018 Extra Life stream, Monster-Handler Matt said that Wubbox was made after the era of Dawn of Fire, and therefore, it would be impossible for both Wubbox and the Wublins to be in it.
  • At its initial release, Wubbox liked the Spurrit Statue and Oaktopus. This was changed during its Cold Island release.
  • The sell price of Wubbox increases with each additional Monster boxed, although not exactly by an amount equal to the sell price of the boxed Monster.
  • When Wubbox first came out, it was only available at Level 30. It was later changed to Level 27, and with the 1.2.8 app update on June 18, 2014, it is unlocked at level 20.
  • Once the player hatches a Wubbox, they immediately receive a goal for placing Monsters inside of it.
    • There are only goals for boxing all Monsters on Plant, Cold, Air, and Gold Islands. There are no goals for activating a Wubbox on any Islands after Water Island.
  • Before Wubbox's addition to Fire Haven during Feast-Ember 2022, the Monster-Handlers teased that it could come to the Fire Islands in a livestream for Anniversary Month 2022.[3]
  • Wubbox is the first Monster to not have the Common egg shape of Monsters, having a cube-shaped egg, rather than a round one.
  • Wubbox only appears on islands with a song speed of 140 beats per minute. The only exception to this guideline is Wublin Island. This is most likely to ensure that its quiet idle sound plays in sync with the song of the island it is on.
  • Wubbox's electric arcs and blue sphere used to be transparent and have an additive color property, which means that, in lighter backgrounds, it would become white, and in darker backgrounds, it became blue. However, this was removed, and Wubbox's electricity and orb are now a solid blue color with no transparency.
  • Part of its Wublin Island active description says it writes W.B. + G.V, which stand for Wubbox and Galvana respectively. This is written because they share a close kinship, since Galvana created Wubbox.[4]
  • Before the additions of the Magical Islands, Wubbox appeared on the most Islands out of any Monster in the game. As of now, however, that title has been given to the Dipsters.
  • During Big Blue Bubble's 2019 Extra Life stream, it was confirmed that Wubboxes are, on average, 4 meters, or 13.1 feet tall, making them the tallest Monsters in the game.
  • The description of the inactive Wubbox used to mention the old Mine: "Just as the Monsters were phasing out production of the old mines, they stumbled upon [...]"
  • When putting an inactive Wubbox into a hotel, the Wubbox used for the animation of it going into the hotel is its powered up version. The same goes for Rare and Epic Wubbox. It also plays its Plant Island singing animation if doing this on Plant Island.
  • Wubbox’s inactive form on Wublin Island was originally going to be statue-like, similar to the Wublins, but this idea was scrapped, and the regular look of an inactive Wubbox was used instead.[5]
  • If a Wubbox is inactive, but still has some Monsters boxed, the spirals and orbs on its arms will occasionally glow a faint blue.
  • Contrary to popular belief, according to Monster-Handler Matt, Wubbox's favorite food is actually cookies.[citation needed]
  • While idle, Wubbox will make a very quiet sound when hitting its pistons together and while the core orbits Wubbox itself.
    • This makes Wubbox the only Monster to make sound in its idle animation.
  • Wubbox's song on Fire Haven was composed by Dave Kerr at the same time as the rest of the Fire Haven song in 2018. The Monster-Handlers waited on releasing Wubbox until they had figured out the lore behind it being on the Island.[6]
  • In the trailer for Wubbox on Fire Haven, Wubbox was put under a pile of leaves - a seemingly obvious place - to reference that it had actually been on Fire Haven all along.
  • Already being on Fire Haven, Wubbox could also potentially appear on Fire Oasis later on. Lorewise, however, it may only be a recent visitor, as the Island was artificially constructed, meaning it couldn't have been there from the start.
  • Using the "Currency Menu" and converting Coins to USD, it can be determined that a Wubbox would be worth around USD$73 (there is a 200,000-ish Coins net gain for every Coin package tier).
  • The powered down Common Wubbox is extremely expensive when compared to the powered down Rare and Epic Wubboxes. This is likely to compensate with the added difficulty of powering them up.
  • It is unclear of how awake and aware Wubbox was when it was powered down in the underground vault.
  • The subterranean Dipsters may see Wubbox as an old neighbor. [citation needed]
  • Wubbox is the only Monster that has different sounding Rare and Epic variants. It is also the only Common Monster with a Rare variant that has a different animation than it.
  • On Wublin Island, Wubbox formerly costed 5,000 Coins. However, on April 5th, 2023, its price was raised to 75,000,000 Coins, just like every other Wubbox that costs Coins.
  • Interestingly, the Wubbox featured in its portrait is actually an early concept of it.
  • Wubbox is made out of a material called Steptanium, which likely comes from 'dubstep,' referencing Wubbox's sound, and 'titanium,' a type of metal.[7]
  • Because Wubbox’s idle animation counts as a track in the Recording Studio, it technically plays through the entire song on the Natural Islands.
  • According to the Wubbox Stockpile bio, Wubbox is part organic.
    • This means that Wubbox could technically be classified as a cyborg due to having organic parts, but it was still made by a Monster as a robot instead of gaining robotic parts.
  • Wubbox is one of the only Monsters to take up a 4x4 space, the others being its Rare and Epic variants.
  • Wubbox is the only Monster on Wublin Island with a costume.
  • Wubbox is the first and only Supernatural Monster to get a costume.
  • Wubbox's core was originally translucent, but this was changed in an unknown update.[8]
    • In the PS Vita version of the game, Wubbox has a transparent sphere regardless of the background.
  • Clubbox, AKA Wubbox's "In Da Club" costume, was not created by GHOSTYMPA. The Clubbox has been featured in official My Singing Monsters trailers for years, and GHOSTYMPA was only inspired.
