|“||How does this Monster remain airborne with so many holes in its wings? Are those perforations the result of repeated run-ins with its own head spikes? Many questions swirl about this volitant being and the Rare Grumpyre finds it all very amusing. Or does it? Like the common variety, this monster's mood is difficult to interpret given its furrowed brow and fierce snarl. Oh, well Shadow is as Shadow does.||”|
The rare Grumpyre, as opposed to its "common" counterpart, has green eyes instead of red, is covered in spikes, and has another pair of wings instead of arms. It also has nine teeth rather than two teeth and appears more menacing.
Just like its Common counterpart, it sings "Boom shikala shika,Boom shikala shika," on Cold Island, and "Boom shika la, Boom shika la la la la Boom shika la, Boom shika la la la la" on Ethereal Island.
Like all other Rares, Rare Grumpyre is only available for breeding during short time periods announced in the game.
Breeding on Cold Island
The Rare Grumpyre can be bred using a combination of a Deedge and one three-element monster. Possible combination(s):
Breeding on Ethereal Island
On Ethereal Island, breeding a Grumpyre with any other monster can result in a Rare Grumpyre instead of regular Grumpyre. A two-element Ethereal is a more likely outcome than the Rare Grumpyre. Once a Rare Grumpyre is available, breeding it with a regular Grumpyre to get more Rare Grumpyres will avoid getting two element Ethereals in the way.
Earning Rate and Maximum Income
Earning rate is in coins or shards per hour and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness), also each monster has a limit to how much income it can hold at a time. Increasing the monster's level increases the limit.
Every monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the monster, the monster's happiness will increase by 25% (in other words, placing two of the same liked item near a monster will still only increase happiness by 25%).

- The Rare Grumpyre is the 5th Rarethereal to be released.
- My Singing Monsters has officially made a comment that Rare Quad-Element Monsters help with Rarethereal breeding better than regular Quad-Element Monsters. This had happened after someone made a comment in Facebook on the Rare Deedge research about how "weird" it is for a Rare Deedge to be re-released on the same day as the initial release of the Rare Grumpyre, leading to this statement by the Monster Handlers that "a certain Quad-Element Monster is required for said Rarethereal breeding", which really refers to the Rare Deedge as the "certain Quad-Element Monster".
