Official Wiki Policy
This article shows information about the official policies of the My Singing Monsters Wiki. Please read this page, as it details how the wiki works, how you can contribute, or what kind of behavior is allowed on the wiki.

Within the My Singing Monsters Wiki, there are certain users granted with extra rights to help moderate, or access and edit more aspects of the wiki. This page will detail exactly what each of these roles entail and how you can obtain these rights.

Getting User Rights

You can receive user rights either by asking, or being contacted by a Bureaucrat or Administrator. Administrators can grant the Discussion Moderator and Rollbacker roles, and Bureaucrats can grant all roles. There are some prerequisites to get user rights, so if it is evident that you don’t qualify, you should hold off on asking until you gain more experience or qualifications.

More to be added…

Conduct

All people with user rights are expected to follow all policies and guidelines. Editors with higher status are not better than anyone else.

Rollbacks

Rollbackers, or Rollbacks, are editors that have been entrusted with the rollback tool. This tool can undo any user’s edit in one click, which is used to stop malicious spam or vandalism. Rollbacks are expected not to use the rollback tool to revert non-malicious edits.

Discussion Moderators

Discussion Moderators, also known as Thread Moderators, take charge in moderating the Discussions Forums. Additionally, they can moderate messages on Blogs and Message Walls.

Abilities

  • Can edit or delete Discussion posts, comments on Discussions and Blog posts, and messages from any user's Message Walls.
  • Change the tags or categories of Discussion posts.
  • View Reported posts and messages to delete or keep.
  • Lock Discussion posts to prevent others from leaving comments.
  • Post Announcements.

Expectations

Discussion Moderators are expected to follow and enforce the Discussions Guidelines in order to keep messages relevant and appropriate. Use good judgement when removing messages, making sure that only messages that violate the rules are removed. Also be careful not to remove a post just because comments are inappropriate. Oftentimes, those replies can be removed and a warning may be issued. For large threads of inappropriate replies or heated arguments, locking or deleting the thread may be necessary. Another tool that may be utilized is the edit tool. This should not be used to completely change the content of someone’s message or even fix typos. Editing should be used to remove/replace small uses of profanity, or excessive bolding, italics, underlining, and CAPS. If you find yourself changing the meaning of what was said with your edit, then the message is probably best deleted instead.

In addition to finding problems by viewing all messages that are posted, you will also get reports via an @ mention, a message on your message wall, or through the Reported messages screen.

An important thing to keep in mind is not to argue with problematic users. You should clarify a moderation decision if it is unclear, or direct them to your message wall to discuss it in more detail. If they start being rude or combative, you should cease the conversation and contact an admin to block them.

Blocking is one of the most severe punishments on the wiki. It prevents people from making edits, posting, or commenting for a certain amount of time, or indefinitely. If someone repeatedly causes problems, you can contact an Administrator on their Message Wall to block them.

Announcements are used to convey polls or messages about recent wiki changes or for news regarding the game. It is expected not to spam these. It is encouraged to talk with other moderators or admins if you are unsure about making an announcement.

Content Moderators

Content Moderators have a set of tools that allows them to perform more actions while editing. Additionally, Content Moderators may assist Administrators in dealing with vandalism and may help solve disputes between users. (More to come)

  • Can protect/unprotect pages.
  • Can delete pages/images
  • Can edit fully protected pages.
  • Automatically have their edits marked patrolled.
  • All other Rollback tools.

They are expected to do the following:

  • Be very careful when deleting pages; be sure to only be deleting pages marked as spam or vandalism.
  • Do not pre-emptively protect pages just because you just do.
  • All other expectations of Rollbacks.

Administrators

Administrators are users of high authority of the wiki. They have a number of tools that they can use to monitor and moderate the wiki. Admins have large responsibility for what they do, and can do almost anything to the wiki or its users.

Abilities

For help on how to use Admin tools, see The Administrators' How-To Guide. Some abilities are listed below:

  • Can block/unblock users or IP addresses from editing.
  • Delete/undelete pages, page histories, and uploaded files.
  • Lock (protect) a page so it cannot be edited or moved (renamed) by users without admin rights or autoconfirmed status.
  • Edit the interface by changing system messages and skins.
  • Can edit the CSS, JS, and other MediaWikis pages.
  • All other Content Moderator tools.
  • All other Discussion Moderator tools.
  • Can grant any user with Rollback or Discussion Moderator rights.

Expectations

Administrators have the full responsibility for what they do and should not abuse their own tools to take advantage of others. This includes the following:

  • Do not block other users simply because of rivalry.
  • Use the block tool with total caution. You may be reported to Wikia Staff if you block a user without a legitimate reason.
  • Ensure your coding is very good if you plan to edit the CSS or the MediaWikis of the wiki. If you are not sure, ask another admin around the wiki, or ask Community Central for help.
  • Ensure you give the right user the right tool(s), and only give if they are truly trustworthy.
  • All other expectations of Content Moderators and Discussion Moderators.

Meet the Admins

The following is a list of all active Admins. A list of all Administrators can be found here: Special:ListAdmins

Hydroquake
Hydroquake is a Bureaucrat that works on a wide variety of things on the wiki. He tends to work on a lot of large scale projects or article overhauls, but you'll also see him fix grammar/styling and Notes sections of pages that need cleaning up. Hydro is happy to help anyone that needs help editing or is having an issue. He is not the admin to contact regarding behavior issues in Discussions, unless another admin is unavailable.

Rare Whiz-bang
Rare Whiz-bang (aka BHY1004) is a Bureaucrat that focuses on making edits and monitoring other users' edit. They also occasionally monitor the Discussions module. Feel free to contact them through their Message Wall if you have any questions or need to report problems on the Wiki.

Toe Bro
Toe Bro is an Admin that has done a great deal of work helping the wiki. He helps make changes to articles when they need updating or are missing information. He tries to help with anything that he can. These edits are usually on the smaller side, but they can sometimes be big edits.

GodCheese27
GodCheese27 is an Admin that focuses on moderating and improving the Discussions module. She works closely with the Discussions moderators. She may help with other things if required, but it's generally best to message her about the discussion module.

Qwertyxp2000 the second
Qwertyxp2000 the second is a Bureaucrat that has made a ton of contributions to the wiki (the most actually), and has contributed significantly to the MSM Wiki community between the years 2014-2017. He currently just focuses on making minor edits here and there, so it is best to contact another Admin for any questions or help. However, you can contact him if you want to talk about the past history of the MSM Wiki, as he is one of the oldest Admins who are still active.

Bureaucrats

Bureaucrats have the following:

  • Can grant any user with Bureaucrat, Administrator, Content Moderator, Discussion Moderator, or Rollback rights.

They are expected to do the following:

  • Be a very experienced user, with strong leadership skills, strong wiki skills, and overall good user to lead the wiki.
  • Ensure you give the right user the right tool(s), and only give if they are truly trustworthy, most especially promoting users to Administrator or Bureaucrat.
  • All other expectations of Administrators.

Other User Roles

There are some "roles" on the MSM Wiki that only provide a special color to your name and a profile tag- they will not grant elevated user rights.

Former Staff

Former Staff members will get a profile tag of their previous role, so long as they weren't removed. Former Bureaucrats, Administrators, and Content Moderators will also receive a purple name.

Power Editor

Power Editor is a role that can be granted to non-staff* users by an Administrator to highlight an editor's hard work. Generally, the requirements are to have high quality edits, edited consistently over the past few months, have over 1,000 edits, and to communicate well with other editors. Not everyone qualifies, and it is done on a case by case basis, so don't feel bad if this role is not granted. Once the Power Editor role is granted, it will not be removed due to inactivity.

If you were an editor that stopped editing long before the Power Editor role was created in January 2024, you may see a "Former Power Editor" tag on your profile, with no color.

*Former Staff can receive the Power Editor role

Star Researcher

Star Researcher is a special role given to game researchers, usually known on other platforms, like the official MSM Wiki Discord. Although they may not have many edits, their edits are usually of high quality.
