It is to distinguish different user types. I made a My Singing Monsters Wiki:User Rights Policy, and they include different colors. I tried to make this green as Furcorn green. So users of different user types get different colors, for distinguishment.
Hello there! Recently, Qwertyxp2000 the second brought to my attention the possibility of me becoming a rollback. So I was hoping you could contemplate this and make a decision. The 1st things I do when checking the wiki is check my message wall, followed by checking Wiki Activity and checking the edits made to pages, so I think this would make it so much easier for me to be able to undo hurtful or unnecessary edits. Thank you in advance for reading and considering this, and I can fully understand if you decide against it, and will continue editing the wiki as I currently do.
Hello Belthazar, I was thinking for a moment about being an admin. Here are a couple of reasons why I would want to be admin and what to do when I am admin:
I have a very long service time on this wiki relative to the length of the whole MSM franchise's history (around 4 years of the MSM franchise, while I had been editing around 2 years in the wiki).
Since some things such as MediaWikis, MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation being one example, cannot be done by Content Moderators (only admins can). I wanted to do some changes to some of them without needing to ask so that I can easily think about how to organise the content without having to indirectly do the "editing" by requesting all the time, which wastes time which I could spend on other things of the wiki.
Thus I will use the admin tool mostly for editing MediaWiki of the wiki, whenever necessary.
I will only use the blocking tool when completely necessary.
If the admin tool also allows granting other users rights below admin, then I will ask you and/or BunsenH whether it is acceptable to do so.
And if I fail being an admin, you can remove admin rights from me.
well id asume they would have left an update if it was re-enabled. it seems like a pretty big thing to not mention. and it seems likely to still be true since the same message pops up now that did to the other person then.
Hello Belthazar, I have thought about for a while about being a Content Moderator for My Singing Monsters Wiki. I had decided that I wanted to have the Content Moderator right for the following reasons:
To delete blatant copyright violations of images and audio (One instance is the spoiler of the Rare Reebro and Rare Jeeode images, which I could've deleted a long time ago before hours after BunsenH deleted those images)
To move poorly named files into betterly named files without having to waste other admins' time.
To continually update the Main Page without having to waste other admins' time.
To continually sort out files.
When I do become Content Moderator, I will do the following:
All of the Content Moderator sorts of reasons above
Not delete non-blatant "inappropriate" content and instead ask the admins about whether an image is to be deleted or not.
Will not protect/unprotect without talking to the admins
Still contact administrators if vandals or socks, rather than that kind of thing by myself.
My main reasons for Content Moderator is to sort out files and articles around the wiki with content, rather than stopping vandalism/socks. You may trial me to be Content Moderator for a while, and if you think I don't do good as a Content Moderator, you may remove those rights from me.
So, I must admit that in general, I wouldn't accept anyone as admin who asks to be one - something of a modification of Groucho Marx's quote about clubs, I wouldn't accept any member to the club who actually wants to join. =)
However, it is true that you've been a valuable editor of this wiki for a fair while, and it's also true I've not been able to devote a great deal of attention to this wiki of late. Plus, your proposal was rather prettily written.
Guess I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Don't break things. =P
Oh, I forgot to state this: I will only protect/unprotect the Policy and MSM Wiki sorts of pages, not any sort of other pages otherwise without your or BunsenH's permission. Of course, the policies pages must be protected to prevent random edits from "bad" users. As for my protection/unprotection of my newly added Did You Know page for the Main Wiki, I have semi-protected to prevent "bad" users from editing but also allow some users to edit.
Hey, B. Periodically someone asks about adding the "chat" feature; there seems to be a relatively-small but steady "demand" for it, and it's possible that more people would use it if it were available -- the usual assumption that's made is that one letter of complaint/request represents the opinions of about ten people who haven't taken the trouble to write. Or at least that's so if the one person who does write appears to be reasonably sane.
You've mentioned before that there have been problems in the past. What kind of problems are you talking about?
Of course, I'm not looking for any more moderation work.
seems to have deteriorated into mostly begs for keys and adverts for tribes nd people who ask to join a tribe while they throw their BBB code up there, too. Someone spammed the page with a ton of codes that are kind of rudely knoocking everyone's down the page who took the time to say hello and introduce themselves.
since theres a page for tribes where ppl can go look to join any number of them or post theirs and key-begging is on my last nerve id like to ask maybe the torch light page be cleaned up or rules made clearer? the page is a mess and getting way off topic
It seems to me that sending keys is just as legitimate a use of the Friend Codes as the torch-lighting stuff. The introduction at the top of that page is explicit: "If you're looking for people to add to your Friends list, to light each others' Wishing Torches, join tribes and all of the other Friends activities, this is the place!" I don't think that can be much clearer.
I also don't have a problem with people having multiple games and thus multiple codes to add to that page. I admit that that large block -- 63 codes, I think -- was startling. If it were to be a recurring thing then we might consider setting up a rule, I suppose.
There is no page for JUST asking for torch lights then ? i used to have a few pages with torch codes but this ended up being the most active one. i add everyone who seems sincere and have for years, but it seems the key and tribe begs are a recent thing. more and more seem to just want to advertise and never intend to light torches, and dont. friend codes are forever - the person saying they dont have a tribe or need people to join their new one on the torch page today will have a different situation in a week or two but people will still add that code thinking theyre getting someone who will light their torches, when these people, really, they dont. it will still sit. if thats on the tribe page, maybe theyd edit it or remove it.
its tedious to add and remove 200 torch requests a month (which i do) because they never light your torches and dont care if anyone's lighting their's. They can of course, since there is a page to find a tribe, go and look for exactly what they want. we cant ask for torch lights on the tribe page, right? getting torches lit by people who reliably do it is so rare that other sites exist to find them. so thought was, especially new folks who dont even have the resources for a tribe or money for keys might like a simple torch page to find simple lighters. there have been pages like this, and this used to be that way.
Keys are new and since 1 can be sent every 30 days it's not like everyone is raining a $6 key on a stranger every day. do people have to post on the torch list to ask ? " gimme a key. im cute!! 17861881HB" ill see if that works. hasnt yet :)
There is no page for JUST asking for torch lights then just suggesting we have one. or keep the one i thought we had. if not, no worries. just thought it was looking messy. thanks!!
