My Singing Monsters

Versatile Scups can readily adhere to most any surface when the need arises. Generally, it prefers to remain on the Earth, as its Water-filled body is quite heavy. The Scups' remarkable feet use Air to produce a call that can travel vast distances.
Monster Bio

Description[]

Scups is a Triple-Element Monster that is first unlocked on Air Island. It was added on September 12th, 2012 during Version 1.0.2. It is best obtained by breeding two Monsters that have the combined Elements of Earth, Water, and Air. By default, its breeding time is 12 hours long. As a Triple-Elemental, Scups does not have a high Coin production.

Song[]

Audio sample:

Instrument(s): Ja-Ru Flarp Noise Putty, Suction cups/plungers

Performer: Maggie Park

Scups makes sounds like suction cups getting pulled off of hardwood and getting stuck back on, or plungers (or something rubber just as sticky).

Breeding[]

Scups can be bred using monsters that combine to provide all the elements of Air, Earth and Water. Possible combinations:

Of these, Noggin + Quibble is the best combination, as failing and breeding a Noggin lets you retry the combo almost instantly. Tweedle + Fwog is a close second, because it has the lowest average waiting times in case of breeding failure.

Scups can also be bred in breeding failures. Some combinations that result in a Scups in a breeding failure include:

(Best choice, 100% chance of a Scups if Rare Scups is unavailable)

(Good choice, 1% chance of a Reebro/Jeeode)

(Good choice, slight chance of Scups but Noggin takes 5 seconds)

Likes[]

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Scups:

See the Likes page to view a complete list of all Monsters' likes.

Monsters Who Like It[]

The following Monster(s) will increase their happiness by 25% when being placed near Scups or when Scups and a Unity Tree are on the Island. These may or may not also be Scups's likes as well:

Statistics[]

Earning Rate and Maximum Income[]

Earning rate is in Coins per minute and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's Level also increases this limit.

Feeding Monsters[]

Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the Coins earned per minute, as well as the maximum Coins earned.

Egg Consumption[]

While trying to breed other Monsters (particularly Monsters with a very low chance of breeding), the following Wublins, Celestials, and Vessels can be used to "dispose of" Scups eggs immediately instead of putting them into a Nursery and having that Nursery not be available. Note that doing this for Rare Wublins will cause the Wublin to stop producing currency and the eggs will not expire.

Note that Monster eggs can only be "disposed of" before awakening Wublins, Celestials, and Vessels; afterwards those Monsters will not accept any eggs. Also note that Monsters to which you have already disposed the number of Scups eggs that it accepts, will no longer be available as a "recycle bin" for such eggs. Kayna's Vessel has no time limit, and its egg inventory cannot be reset. Awakened Celestials only accept eggs during their corresponding Celestial month.

Notes[]

  • Scups' name may come from the portmanteau of suction cups that the Monster has. In addition to this, Scups "scoops" its feet off the ground to create the suction cup sound.
  • Scups is depicted way smaller in the Book of Monsters than it actually is when placed. The same situation applies to other Monsters, with Potbelly and Reedling being other notable examples.
  • The concept egg is the one that was initially active in-game, and is also shown here along with the original concept Monster. It is identical to the Scups used in the game, with something like the Wild Bagpipe on top of its head.
  • The original Scups egg can still be seen in-game, as part of the image at the top of the Goals list and the Hotel menu.
  • The plural of Scups is Scups. (e.g.: too much scups)[citation needed]
  • A group of Scups is called a "Plumb," which is short for plumber, also being based off of the fact that Scups' legs are suction cups, which is commonly used by plumbers.
  • The only three Monsters Scups does not play with on Water Island are Oaktopus, Blabbit, and Wubbox.
  • Scups, along with Bowgart, are the only Natural Monsters to have their teeth clenched.
    • Additionally, they do not have their teeth clenched on the Continent, mainly because they have only one tooth.
