Each Monster's egg is uniquely identifiable, even before the egg hatches. Since each Monster in the game is also made from a unique combination of elements, these eggs also represent the 'genetic material' of the two parents shown at the top of the Breeding Structure. Kayna initially did not have an egg; its egg was added in Update 2.2.4.
Up until the release of Psychic Island and the Psychic Monsters, all Rare and Epic Monsters had the same eggs as their common counterparts, except that a shimmer or gleam effect will appear across the egg from left to right in Breeding Structures and Nurseries. As of now, all Rares and Epics have unique eggs.
As of Version 3.0.4, teleported Monsters eggs which had Costumes before teleporting have a unique effect applied to their eggs, much like Rare and Epic Monster eggs. However, this effect does not affect the texture of the egg itself.

Notes[]
- Despite not being seen in-game until 4.1.1, the Amber Island exclusive Rare Fire Monsters all had eggs which could be found in the official fan kit upon their release.
- Glimmers to Rare eggs were added in Version 2.0.9.
- The glows for the Epic eggs were added alongside the Epics themselves in Version 2.2.2.
- Many of the Monster eggs resemble other Monster eggs.
- The glimmer of a Rare Monster Egg only shows up if it's in the basket of the Breeding Structure, and not when a Rare Monster is used for breeding and its egg is in one of the bowls on the top.
- A glow and glowing streaks appear on Epic eggs.
- Celestial Eggs can only be seen in Dawn of Fire.
- The Harvesting Zap trailer for Amber Island reveals how a monster egg is created; it is simply materialized in a cloud of bubbles into the monster's grip, and then tossed into the breeding structure.
- Originally, Rare Monster eggs did not even have the special effects applied to them. Instead, the only way to tell if you had a Rare or Epic Monster was by looking at their breeding and incubation times. This was likely changed to avoid confusion and help make it easier to identify Rares.
- None of the eggs required for inactive Wublins, Celestials, or Amber Island vessels are Rare or Epic.
- However, Rare eggs are needed to evolve active Wublins to their Rare counterpart, and to ascend active Celestials to their adult form during their associated month.
