The heart of My Singing Monsters is, of course, the monsters themselves! So far there are currently 92 known monsters to buy or breed, excluding the monsters from Dawn of Fire. Each of these creatures has a distinctive voice or sound that they contribute to the various songs you will find in the game. As you collect the many monsters of MSM, they can be muted and unmuted in order to create a unique mix. You can also purchase a Time Machine to speed up or slow down the tempo, or a Recording Studio to change the voices of monsters entirely. According to Big Blue Bubble, there are 30+ unique regular monsters.
Every monster has the ability to produce Currency, in the shape of coins or shards. This ability can be magnified by their Happiness, a special trait that varies with every monster species.

Triple Element
Main Article: Triple Element Monsters
These monsters can be bred from one single-element monster and one double-element monster.
Monsters of this kind are slightly more difficult to breed. There can be a few breeding failures but this category is not as hard to breed as some types of monsters. Note that if you breed one of these monsters with a four-element monster, you'll always get the three-element monster as a result except in the rare case that you get an Ethereal monster.

Quad Element
Main Article: Quad Element Monsters
These monsters can be bred from one single-element monster and one triple-element monster, or from two double-element monsters.
Because of the complexity of these monster elements, it is difficult to successfully breed these monsters. It is believed that a triple-element monster and a single-element monster is the kind of combination that has the best chance of success.

Ethereal Monsters
Main Article: Ethereal Monsters
Ethereal Monsters are a special class of monster, with their own unique qualities and their own Island. Each one is associated with one or more of the five ethereal elements: Plasma, Shadow, Mech, Crystal, or Poison. The one-element ethereal monsters are hard to get, since there is only about a 1% chance per try of breeding them. It is also very difficult to successfully breed two-element ethereal monsters on Ethereal Island. Like natural monsters, each parent gives a certain element in the gene pool for the "child", which only works in Ethereal Island.

Legendary Monsters
Main Article: Legendary Monsters
Legendary Monsters are a special class of monster, with their own unique qualities; for example, each has its own special guitar or drums and a special hat. Like the Ethereal monsters, they also have their own Island. These monsters must be bred from a Shugabush (apart from the Shugabush itself), which is very hard to breed. They are still not as hard to get as the Ethereal Monsters.

Supernatural Monsters
Main Article: Supernatural Monsters

Seasonal Monsters
Main Article: Seasonal Monsters
Seasonal Monsters are limited time monsters, they are only available to buy or breed during specific times of the year. These monsters are considered as hard to get as quad element monsters as well as only being available once per year. If you are lucky enough, you might be able to get them through the scratch egg ticket available in the nursery once a week.
These monsters were once called "Limited Time Monsters", then "Special Edition Monsters". As of the v1.2.5 update, the developers changed the class from "Special Edition" to "Seasonal" in their information.

Breeding
Main Article: Breeding
With the exception of the Single Element Natural Monsters and the Wubbox (which are all purchased from the Market with ), every other monster in the game is obtainable through breeding.
- The Breeding page contains a quick reference for breeding monsters.
- Visit the Breeding Structure page for some discussion of which combination is "best".
- When choosing which monsters to breed, it does not matter which monster is on the left or right column.
Eggs
Main Article: Eggs
Each monster has its own unique Egg, so even in egg form it can be identified.
Feeding Monsters
Main Article: Feeding
A monster's level increases every four meals it is fed, up to a maximum of fifteen levels. When a monster's level increases, so does the amount of coins it earns per minute, the maximum amount of coins it can hold, and the amount of food necessary for each of its meals. It also gets bigger, within its space(s) on the island. Food can be made in a Bakery.
Likes
Main Article: Likes
Every monster has at least four different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near them, that monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing two of the same item near a monster will still only increase happiness by 25%. How quickly monsters earn coins is based on their Happiness.
Normally, for something to increase a monster's happiness, the two objects must be placed side by side. However, purchasing a Unity Tree from the market (available at level 16) will allow you place decorations and monsters anywhere you like on islands, including into Storage or a Hotel, without affecting the monster's happiness level.
There is a list of which monsters like which things on each island. There is also a list of which decorations are liked by each monster.
