My Singing Monsters

On a moonlit night when a Barrb has reached maturity, its elegant neck foliage, formerly chartreuse, blooms into a luscious collar in a fetching shade of magenta. This collar quickly becomes the Barrb's pride and joy, requiring frequent waterings and plenty of sunlight.
Monster Bio

Description[]

Barrb is a Triple-Element Fire Monster found on Fire Haven and Amber Island. It was added on November 21st, 2018 during the 2.2.4 Fire Haven update. It is best obtained by breeding Glowl and Potbelly. By default, its breeding time is 20 hours long. As a Fire Triple-Elemental, Barrb has decent Coin production, though Tring is recommended.

On Amber Island, Barrb is only available at select times. When available, it is obtained by purchasing in the Market for 20 Relics as a vessel, which then can be revitalized by zapping eggs into it. As a Fire Triple-Elemental, Barrb has decent Relic production

Song[]

Audio Sample:

Voice actors: Sarah Parsons, Tom Meikle (Amber Island)

Barrb sings in a raspy and echoey voice with a series of "hoo" and "gah".

Its voice is similar to its DoF counterpart, except higher in pitch and in a different pattern.

VSTs[]

Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plugin software that has libraries of sound effects and synthesized instruments. Within these libraries are SoundFonts, which are the individual effects and instruments themselves. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VSTs to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters.

Breeding[]

Barrb can be bred with the elements of Air, Plant and Fire. The usable combinations are:

Of these, Glowl+Potbelly is the best combination, as it has the shortest wait time per failed attempt.

Barrb can also be bred in a breeding failures. Some combinations that result in a Barrb in a breeding failure include:

(Best choice, 100% chance of a Barrb if Rare Barrb is unavailable)

(Good choice, very small chance of getting Tring)

Likes[]

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Barrb:

See the Likes page to view a complete list of all Monsters' likes.

Note: On Amber Island, all of Barrb's likes are only obtainable for a limited time. Amber Vessels must be revitalized before they count towards Barrb's happiness.

Monsters Who Like It[]

The following Monster(s) will increase their happiness by 25% when being placed near Barrb or when Barrb and a Unity Tree are on the Island. These may or may not also be Barrb's likes as well:

Revitalizing[]

On Amber Island, Barrb must be powered up rather than being bred. Unlike Wublins and Celestials, the allotted time to fill a Vessel does not start when the first egg is zapped, but are instead are only available to purchase and fill at select times. The inventory must be completed in this time. When a purchased vessel is incomplete after the time, it will disappear and half of the relics spent will be given back. You will also get the option to revive Barrb by purchasing the missing eggs with Diamonds. Eggs can be zapped from Mirror Islands instead of, or in conjunction with Natural Islands.

Filling In[]

Like other Monsters on Amber Island, Barrb can instead be filled in with Diamonds. Each egg can be filled in for 40Diamonds. Barrb requires a total of 1,480Diamonds for all eggs to be filled.

Since all eggs have an equal Diamond fill cost, it is best to save your Diamonds for the Monsters that are harder to obtain. And oftentimes, it is cheaper to speed up eggs to zap from the Breeding Structure instead.

Wildcards may also be used when filling in a Barrb's inventory. Similarly, it's best to save them for harder to obtain Monsters.

Statistics[]

Earning Rate and Maximum Income[]

Earning rate is in Coins per minute or Relics per month (28 days) and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's Level also increases this limit.

Feeding Monsters[]

Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the Coins earned per minute, as well as the maximum Coins earned.

Egg Consumption[]

While trying to breed other Monsters (particularly Monsters with a very low chance of breeding), the following Celestials and Vessels can be used to "dispose of" Barrb eggs immediately instead of putting them into a Nursery and having that Nursery not be available. Note that doing this for Rare Wublins will cause the Wublin to stop producing currency and the eggs will not expire.

Note that Monster eggs can only be "disposed of" before awakening Celestials and Vessels; afterwards those Monsters will not accept any eggs. Also note that Monsters to which you have already disposed the number of Barrb eggs that it accepts, will no longer be available as a "recycle bin" for such eggs. Awakened Celestials only accept eggs during their corresponding Celestial month.

Notes[]

  • Barrb’s name is a play on the word "barb", which is a backwards-facing point on a spine or fish hook, referring to Barrb's spikes.
  • Barrb also has heterochromia in the original My Singing Monsters game like its Dawn of Fire counterpart. It can be seen more clearly in its Dawn of Fire design.
  • Barrb's voice is reminiscent of tribal shouting in rituals. This is also true for Flowah, which is one of its Likes.
    • It also never appears on an island without Flowah, even in both games. However, this is not true for Flowah itself, who has appeared without Barrb on certain islands in both games.
  • According to a tweet by the Monster-Handlers, Barrb requires roughly 6 times more water to stay healthy than an average human, and can gladly absorb over 1200 gallons of water per calendar year through the magenta leaves on its collar.
  • Barrb has the longest breeding failure time out of any non-Magical Triple-Element Monster, as all of the monsters that are used in its combinations take over an hour to breed.
    • This is not the case in Dawn of Fire, as Kayna only takes 15 minutes to breed. In that game, the monster with the longest breeding failure time is Spunge.
  • There was a bug where Barrb's Vessel required 2 Gobbleygourds instead of 2 Gobs during its release. This was later fixed.
    • This incident was referred to as The Great Gobbleygourd Gob Snafu of 2022 in the 3.9.4 Showcase video.
    • When the bug occurred, Gobbleygourd was not yet available on Fire Haven or Fire Oasis, but Gobbleygourd eggs could be zapped from Seasonal Shanty. This was before there was a rule that Seasonal Shanty's generator interferes with the ability to zap eggs.
      • Coincidentally, Barrb's Amber Island availability would line up with Gobbleygourd's Out of Season later in the month.
    • The concept for zapping Seasonal eggs was reused for Adult Celestials, with Adult Plixie requiring a Gobbleygourd egg.
  • Barrb and Floogull inhabit the same Islands, even in Dawn of Fire.
  • According to a Discord message from Dave Kerr, the sound for Barrb on Light Island (if it was a Fire Island) was going to be a melodic sound just like Flowah, but the sound itself hasn’t been revealed.
